What is Talking Bull?

Introduction

Firstly, before going any further, I believe it would only be right in introducing Talking Bull, and what it represents. The aim of Talking Bull and the project as a whole was to demonstrate real-world marketing skills such as using WordPress and Google Analytics, then to use different social media marketing platforms and techniques to drive traffic to the blog. Talking Bull was designed as Premier League of Darts preview blog, in which a preview of the upcoming weeks' matches was uploaded, featuring content such as previous match statistics and selected betting tips from a varying amount of bookmakers. The reason for such a unique selection of blog topic is down to my love for the sport of darts. According to Witham (2018), darts has become one of the fastest-growing sports and is also becoming one of the most-watched sports in Europe. This increase in rapid popularity and attraction of new followers to darts has created a gap in the market for preview blogs, such as Talking Bull, to enhance the fan experience.

Target Audience

The target audience for Talking Bull was people aged between 18 and 34. The justification behind selecting this age range is shown by Mintel (2020), who states that 28% of people aged under 35 are interested in darts and other such bar games. The reasoning behind selecting the minimum target audience age of 18 is down to the UK gambling laws, which state that persons under the age of 18 are not permitted to gamble; therefore it would have been unethical for me to provide betting tips to people under the age of 18. Further justification for the betting tips aspect of the Talking Bull blog is brought up by a different article from Mintel (2019a), as 20% of all betting customers in the 18-34 age demographic spent money betting on darts in 2019. This data from Mintel (2019a) suggests that a reasonable proportion of people in the 18-34 age category have previously bet on darts, meaning there will be interest in betting previews in the sport of darts.
